The parade passed right by me
with lions, tigers and bears to see
the bearded lady walked right by
and I could see a little tear in her eye
their funny faces made me smile
and forget my troubles for a little while
And I long to be like them and not like me
I'm so tortured and they're so free
So, I went to the ringmaster
Said please mister can I join your circus
He said I don't know what can you do
I'll try and find a job for you
Well I canpick up elephant crap
and I read a darn good map
I need a job don't you know
this life of mine ain't a rodeo
And I long to be like you and not like me
I'm so tortured and you're so free
he said
But you can't walk on a high wire
you can't tame your own lions
and you're not funny at all
you're very small
I met up with the lion tamer
we had an affair it was quite a flamer
Told him my plan you see was to
join a band of wild gypsies
He said you're a fool don't you know
you've got what you need and more so
friends and family
close by
and you can see the same sky
he said
I long to be like you and not like me
I am so tortured and you're so free
But, I can't walk on a high wire
and I can't tame my own lions
and I am not funny at all
I feel so small
When the tent finally fell
I waved and wished them well
and I saw her in the caravan
the lady who once read my hand
she said you my friend are an old soul
then she asked me for my money roll
And I long to be like her and not like me
she's so tortured and I'm too free
So, If I can't walk on a high wire
and I can't tame my own lions
and I am not funny at all
I'm not so small
I'm not so small
