Holding you among the highest, trying to keep it here
Tucked away it seems safest. Train myself to never let this appear.
Have I been careless, shallow-through, trying to keep it here?
Locked under lying verses and keys that seem furthest from sincere.

I'll give you wild strawberries, I told you I would
Give you baskets of wild strawberries and wonder if I'll be understood.

I embrace you as an orphaned vein in desperate search of blood.
You fend me off like a cold, steel dam bracing for a flood.

I'll give you wild strawberries, I told you I would.
Bring you baskets of wild strawberries and wonder if I'll be understood.

There's no willing ear to lend a hand for fear perhaps that you may disband
And besides what would I do if you hadn't ever thought of feeling that way too.

I'd abandon this idea if I seriously thought I might
Go back to my low rent cocoon bargaining with the night.

Maybe I'm giving you too much credit these notes will be clear
And I'll abort the practice I've started of trying to keep it here.

I'll give you wild strawberries, I told you I would
Bring you baskets of wild strawberries and wonder if I'll be understood.

Holding you against the highest. Holding you against the highest.
