Activity: It's a strange world! Objective: Constructing sentences Level: Intermediate-advanced Materials: Several cards of three different colors Write different types of words (subjects, verbs, and qualifiers) on three different colored cards. Use one color for nouns, another for verbs, etc. Use words that you have been working on recently. You should have at least 10 words for each category. For example: Subjects: the president, trees, dogs, people,... Verbs: to speak, to run, to walk, to play, to be... Qualifiers: many, fast, sideways, twice, upside down... Tell students that they are going to describe life in a far away planet and that life there is very strange. Students should take turns picking a card from each pile and then making up a sentence using all three words that describes life in that planet. For example, if a student gets the words "trees, to run" and "upside down," he/she could say "All trees are upside down and can run very fast." Tell students to use their imaginations! As long as the sentence is grammatically correct, it is valid in this game. The strange combinations make the exercise more fun. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
