Activity: Verb Potpourri Objective: Practice verb tenses Level: All levels Materials: Flashcards Before class, prepare two different sets of flashcards, one with the infinitives of the verbs you wish to practice (such as to go, to see, to eat, etc), and a second one with the tenses that you wish to practice, (such as simple present, present continuous, etc). Divide the class into two teams. The first group has to pick up a card of each set and make a sentence using the verb and the specified tense. For example, if a student picks up a card with the verb "to go" and a card with the tense "simple past", he/she could say "I went to school yesterday." A correct sentence earns the team two points. If a student creates a partially correct sentence, give him/her the chance to correct it. If he/she does so, the team gets one point. At the end, the team with most points wins. Encourage students to be adventurous and create longer and unique sentences using vocabulary they have learned in class. If a student does so, give him/her an extra point. This will encourage other students to do the same! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
