Activity: A day in the life of ... Vocabulary: Jobs and professions, routines Level: All levels Materials: None With the help of your students, create a short narrative about the life of a particular person. Write "A Day in the Life of ..." on the board. Then choose the person according to the topics you have learned that week. If you have taught a lesson on jobs, you can choose any profession for the essay: "A Day in the Life of a policeman/doctor/fashion photographer, ..." If you have learned about shopping, you can write about a clerk, or a salesperson. If you want to practice vocabulary in general you can do this activity with fun topics like "A Day in the Life of a Superhero, Millionaire, Film Star, Clown" and so on. Start by saying the first sentences: "Alan is a doctor. He gets up at 8am and goes to the hospital. There ..." Have a student finish the sentence. Each sentence must be created by a different student. If students have difficulties, help them by asking them questions in which you give a choice, such as "Where does he/she go next, home or to a bar?" or "Does he get to work on time or late?" Encourage creativity. With a bit of imagination this activity can be a lot of fun. You can also vary the title, such as "A bad day for (Susan), A great day for (Susan), The worst day in (Susan)'s life, A day to remember," and so on. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
