Activity: In a skyscraper Vocabulary: Jobs, professions and ordinal numbers Level: Beginner-Intermediate Materials: None This game is a fun activity to practice vocabulary and test your memory! Tell students to imagine that they are in a very high skyscraper. On each floor, there's a different person doing a different job. One by one, students have to say who is on each floor and what his/her job is. For instance, the first student says "There's a lawyer on the first floor." The second student has to repeat what the first one said, and add a new person. For instance, "There's a lawyer on the first floor and a writer on the second floor." The third student has to repeat what the others said and add a new one: "There's a lawyer on the first floor, a writer on the second floor and a clown on the third floor," etc. Continue until one of the students cannot remember all of the information or he/she cannot come up with a new job. Students who cannot keep up will be "out." The last students to remember everything wins. To make this game more exciting, other students can help with pantomime or gestures. They cannot speak, though. You can adapt this activity to practice other vocabulary, such as types of shops (On my street, there's a …), food (I'm going to a picnic, I'm bringing…), animals (I went to the zoo, I saw…), and so on. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
