Activity A: Finding the Subject and Verb
Circle the simple subject and underline the main verb of each sentence.
- Although she was carrying a heavy package, the older woman still refused to sit.
- Whenever I feel upset, I order an ice cream sundae without nuts.
- Do you want to go to the symphony tonight even though you have a headache?
- Since you think bungee jumping is such a good idea, you can rent a cord to try it.
Activity B: Complete the Sentence
Decide whether the following phrases are main clauses or subordinate clauses. If it is a subordinate clause, add a main clause to make it a complete sentence.
- Whether you like it or not.
- Even though I only eat certain kinds of fish.
- Wanting something so much that you can taste it is not enough.
- Despite her attempt to run faster.
- Therefore I shower every day.
- Because of the high cost of living in Los Angeles.
- Underneath the table where the kids were having a tea party.
- Sitting under a tree in the late afternoon with the sunlight streaming down on her face.
