The Confused Tourist

To talk about location, use the verb estar .

>> ¿Dónde está la farmacia?

You can also use estar to indicate that someone is at a particular location.

>> Pedro está en la plaza.

This is how you conjugate estar :

(yo) estoy (nosotros) estamos
(tú) estás (vosotros) estáis
(usted) está (ustedes) están
(él, ella) está (ellos) están

Use the word hay to express both there is and there are in Spanish. No hay means there is not and there are not . To ask a question, use ¿Hay…?

>> ¿ Hay un supermercado por aquí?

>> Sí, hay uno en la esquina.

Use también hay to say there is also and there are also . Use tampoco hay to say there isn’t either or there aren’t either .

>> Hay un restaurante y también hay un bar.

>> No hay un cine y tampoco hay una discoteca.
