Tu parles français? (Les verbes en er )

Many French verbs end with -er In this section, we'll show you how to conjugate these verbs.
First, take the -er off the end of the verb to get the stem

Start with the verb dîner (to eat dinner) and take off the -er . You're left with dîn as the stem. Next, you add the appropriate endings to the stem. Memorize the endings below

Endings Stem + Ending = Final Form Pronounced
je -e dîn + e = dîne 'deen'
tu -es dîn + es = dînes 'deen'
il -e dîn + e = dîne 'deen'
elle -e dîn + e = dîne 'deen'
nous -ons dîn + ons = dînons 'deenohn'
vous -ez dîn + ez = dînez 'deenay'
ils -ent dîn + ent = dînent 'deen'

Note that the verb forms for je , tu , il , elle , and ils are all pronounced the same way even though they're spelled differently.

Finally, you should know that in French, the present tense can be translated into English in several ways. For example, je dîne can be translated as I eat , I am eating or I do eat .
